This Saturday, May 18, Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York City will debut three solo shows: Andy Kehoe‘s “Luminous Reverie,” Marco Mazzoni‘s (HF Vol. 27) “Animanera” andSouther Salazar‘s “Souvenirs.” Known for his multi-layered painting technique, Andy Kehoe creates mysterious fantasy worlds with convincing depth by aggregating layers of resin painted with oil and acrylic. In his latest body of work, Kehoe offers glimpses into nocturnal storybook scenes that delve into mysticism and ritual. Kehoe experimented with sculptural elements in this series of resin boxes, submerging small polymer clay sculptures in the resin to further cultivate an illusion of space despite the works’ flat, illustrative style.

Marco Mazzoni (featured in a special sketchbook insert in our current issue) continues his exploration of the traditional relationship between women and nature in pagan cultures with his color pencil drawings. Paying tribute to midwifes and female healers persecuted for their knowledge of herbal medicine in early Christian times, Mazzoni also connects his latest body of work to contemporary themes. The title, “Animanera,” translates from Italian to “Black Soul” and is an allusion to the troubled political and economic situation in his home country of Italy.

Because Caitlin Moran’s article is the best thing ever and I want her to write a book about Benedict, I decided to do a giveaway of The Times Magazine on Saturday with Benedict on the cover. If you want to have your own copy to drool/cry/obsess over but were not able to buy it this is your chance. Benedict talks about Star Trek Into Darkness and Sherlock and his mother is angry with him because he has not yet found a “bird”.

…stupid?

…silly?

…immature?

The answer to all previous questions, at least in my case, is NO.

Tumblr is a playground for my mind. Is where I escape to have a bit of a laugh and ‘get away’ because I haven’t been able to afford a holiday in DECADES…I actually have a life. I’m a 32 year old who reads dozens of books each year, writes a lot, and has several freelance social media / marketing clients, plus a part-time job that consumes most of my days. I’m not complaining - I know my life has its tough moments, like all human lives - but I’m not some idiot who spends her life in front of a screen, without a care in the world.

I’m a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch because he is an intelligent person and a brilliant actor. Yes, I do find him very attractive, but that’s not what makes me a fan. It goes beyond that.

It bothers me to no end when people begin harassing me on Twitter because they disagree with me as to which Sherlock Holmes is the best (not even interested in arguing with anyone about that - not changing my mind, and I know I’m not changing other people’s minds! Why do people keep trying to make others think like they do?).

It makes my blood boil to read posts on Tumblr by people who met Benedict and then go on to generalize about how ‘all of the Benedict/Sherlock fandom is way too intense’, who asume that we are all teenagers and that we all hate those who get to meet or hang out with the man. You met him? Good! I’m happy for you! Those who attack you for having met Benedict Cumberbatch are definitely assholes - but those are few, trust me! WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME.

Being part of a fandom is about learning and sharing, about having beautiful experiences and meeting other worlds, about making new friends and having solace in your mind from the stress of everyday life. Being a true fan IS NOT THE SAME as being obsessive, psychotic, stupid or any other negative concept you might want to associate with us. This kind of reduction to the absurd is so pessimistic, and it just goes to show that humanity sucks so much merely because we decide to focus on the negative aspects, rather than the positive ones.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: BEING PART OF A FANDOM IS NOT A LICENSE TO HATE OTHERS, OR AN INVITATION FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO HATE YOU.

Please, I beg of you: do not ostracize me just because I belong to a fandom. My beliefs, my passions and my hobbies are not subject of your judgements!
